Utah Division of Water Rights

Utah is a dry state and water rights are a contentious issue. The Utah Division of Water Rights has resources related to water rights and the distribution of water rights in the state.

In 2010, the Utah State Legislature passed legislation allowing property owners to collect water on their property. Wise people have been installing cisterns below their gutters. If you collect water, you need to fill out this form.

NOTE, if you collect rain water, you need barrels with tight covers. Otherwise your barrel will become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
