🠈  Dominguez–Escalante expedition  🠊

The Dominguez–Escalante expedition was the first recorded visit of Europeans to Utah.

Fray Francisco Atanasio Domínguez (1740 - ~1805) and Fray Francisco Silvestre Vélez de Escalante (1750 - 1780) were members of the Fransican Order. They were seeking trade routes between the Spanish settlement in Sante Fe, New Mexico and California

The expedition explored the heart of the Colorado Plateau and ran North along the Green River to present day Wyoming and had side explorations that included the discovery of Utah Lake.

The expedition helped lay the foundation for the Spanish Trail which was an arduous trade route from Santa Fe to California.
